Freelance TV producers have raised concerns about the recent appointment of David Harvey, the former producer and presenter of Crimeline, to the board of RTE. They are unhappy with his track record of paying freelancers in the past.
Gerry Hoban, an independent TV director, tweeted a complaint about Harvey’s appointment in July, which led to further criticisms. In a sarcastic tweet, Hoban said: “Obviously it’s because of his long-standing support and full payment of the indie sector, and his . . . dealings with all freelancers.”
Another independent TV producer has since posted on a Facebook forum asking those with experience of working with Harvey to come forward so they can address his appointment through “strength in numbers”.
